Our Story
The year was 1974. The thrust of the Philippine Government was on infrastructure. It was under this climate that the founding principals established a partnership under the name of ALCANTARA • UBAY ASSOCIATES, consulting civil and structural engineers. The partnership lasted for more than ten years; a feat not equaled by any other partnership in the same category and undergone transformation on February 18, 1985, when the Security and Exchange Commission issued the Original Certificate of Registration No. 124979 to ALCANTARA•UBAY AND COMPANY, INC.
It was during the partnership stage (1974-1984) that the principal partners, Engrs. P. P. Alcantara and R. R. Ubay, individually and collectively engaged in infrastructure projects of the Philippine government: Second IBRD Highway Project, San Fernando-Olongapo and San Fernando-Gapan Road, Iligan-Cagayan de Oro-Butuan Road; Manila International Airport Complex; Mindoro Integrated Rehabilitation and Development Project (MIRDP); Third IBRD Highway Project, Puerto–Kibawe Road (Sayre Highway); Fourth IBRD Highway Project, Cebu–San Remigio Road and Digos–General Santos Project (Region IX) and the feasibility studies of 2,000 km. Road Network of the Philippine government.
“Maximum economy without sacrificing safety” is the strict policy of the firm’s operation from the start. As a result, ALCANTARA • UBAY ASSOCIATES established a reputation of applying value engineering in all its various engineering projects: buildings, bridges, piers, condominiums, factories, and other types of structures. In bridge construction, ALCANTARA • UBAY ASSOCIATES introduced the following FIRSTS in the design of bridge structures in the Philippines:
FIRST to introduce cast-in-place post-tensioned design (Gapan – Peñafrancia bridge in Nueva Ecija);
FIRST to introduce post-tensioned precast segmental design (The Lambingan Bridge in Sta. Ana);
FIRST to introduce box girder design (The Arayat bridge in Pampanga);
And the FIRST to introduce the CIP cantilever bridge design (The Atugan bridge in Bukidnon).
Accelerated growth prompted the founders to venture into a total engineering approach and offered its services to meet the demands of a fast-developing nation. In 1985, the partners decided to incorporate the existing organization. Thus, ALCANTARA • UBAY AND CO., INC. evolved to meet the demands of its clients – from feasibility studies, planning and designing to construction management and supervision.
During the past years, the firm has diversified its investment in various businesses related to construction. AUCI was part owner of Freyssinet Philippines, Inc., Pacopandana Construction and Development Corporation and Tierra Tech International, Inc.
AUCI has since continued its effort to keep abreast with the latest technology. Its financial and manpower resources are capable of serving any demands of a project in the new millennium. More than ever, the company will keep its commitments to serve the demands of modern times and the growing requirements that its clients expected from a well-established and professional company.
